Hey... Have You Tried Something New Lately?
Seriously...Have you?
Not a new Netflix series. (Although I'm not judging because I definitely have my comfort shows.)
I mean something that makes you think, "Well... this could either be the best idea I've ever had... or a complete disaster."
Lately I've been thinking about how easy it is to get stuck in the same routine. We wake up, check our phones before our eyes are fully open, drink the same coffee, drive the same roads, see the same people, make the same supper, and somehow we're surprised when life starts feeling... a little blah.
Sometimes we tell ourselves we're stuck.
But are we really?
Or have we just stopped being curious?
When we were kids, we'd try anything. We'd climb trees that were definitely too tall, make weird snacks that should've been illegal, build forts out of blankets, collect rocks because one of them might have been magical, and somehow a cardboard box could entertain us for an entire afternoon.
Now? We stand in the grocery store debating whether trying a different brand of peanut butter is "too risky."
What happened to us?
At some point, being an adult became very serious business.
Bills.
Appointments.
Laundry.
Trying to remember why you walked into the kitchen... three times.
No wonder life starts feeling heavy.
I honestly think we underestimate what trying something new can do for our minds. Not because it'll magically solve every problem, but because it reminds us there's still so much life left to experience.
Maybe you discover you love painting.
Maybe you learn you absolutely do not love painting, and your masterpiece somehow looks like a raccoon wearing Crocs.
That's still a win.
You laughed.
You tried.
You created a memory.
Not everything has to become your new career or your lifelong passion. Sometimes the point is simply to shake things up enough that your brain goes, "Oh! We're doing something different today!"
Healing isn't always sitting with your feelings.
Sometimes healing looks like signing up for a class where you know absolutely nobody.
Sometimes it's learning to bead.
Sometimes it's gardening... and then realizing plants are far more dramatic than people gave them credit for.
Sometimes it's going for a walk without a destination, stopping for an ice cream, taking the scenic route home, or saying yes when your friend asks if you want to come along.
Life has a funny way of introducing us to ourselves when we stop trying so hard to have everything figured out.
The truth is, you don't need permission to begin again.
You don't need a new year.
You don't need Monday.
You don't need everything in your life to be perfect first.
You just need one tiny moment where you say, "Sure... why not?"
So this week, I hope you try something you've never done before.
Maybe you'll be terrible at it.
Maybe you'll find your new favourite hobby.
Maybe you'll laugh until your cheeks hurt.
And honestly... I think we could all use a little more of that.
Life is already hard enough.
Let's not make it boring too.
